My 9-year-old son been wearing the kid that stays down the street from our house shoes and now he’s dealing with yellow bumps.. What is it

1. Impetigo (Most Likely if Bumps Are Yellow & Crusty)

Impetigo is a very common bacterial skin infection in children. It often starts as small red bumps or blisters that burst and form yellow or honey-colored crusts.

Signs of impetigo:

  • Yellow, crusty sores

  • Red bumps that ooze

  • Itching

  • Spreads quickly

  • Often appears around the feet, ankles, or anywhere skin was irritated

It spreads easily through shared items like shoes, socks, towels, or close contact.

2. Fungal Infection (Athlete’s Foot)

If the bumps are on his feet and there is:

  • Peeling skin

  • Itching or burning

  • Cracking between toes

It could be a fungal infection from wearing someone else's shoes.

Fungal infections sometimes cause small blisters or bumps that may look yellowish if irritated.

3. Folliculitis

This is an infection of hair follicles that can cause small yellow or white bumps filled with pus. It can happen from bacteria entering irritated skin.

What You Should Do

  • 🚫 Stop sharing shoes immediately

  • 🧼 Wash his feet daily with warm water and mild soap

  • 🧴 Keep the area clean and dry

  • 👟 Make sure he wears only his own clean socks and shoes

  • 🩺 If bumps are spreading, painful, oozing, or not improving in 2–3 days, see a pediatrician

If it’s impetigo, he may need a prescription antibiotic ointment or oral antibiotics.

When to See a Doctor Urgently

  • Fever

  • Rapid spreading

  • Swelling or severe redness

  • Pain

  • Pus drainage

Since he’s 9, skin infections can spread quickly among kids. It’s best to get it checked if you're unsure — especially if the bumps look crusty and yellow.
